Unity in the Community Carpentry Academy

Unity in the Community Carpentry Academy is a twenty four week program that teaches at-risk youth between the ages of 14-19 about the basics of Carpentry . Our Carpentry Class meets twice a week , we provide them with tools , a weekly stipend of $150.00 , provide dinner for the students , a mentor to help them deal with personal and professional issues and we host an outing once a month to build a relationship with the students. During the program , we teach the students how to lay floors , assemble doors , sheet rock , paint , spackle , use tools and much more. At the conclusion of the program , the students will have gained employment and will have their own equipment to work on various projects at home and throughout the community. The purpose of this program is to teach the students a trade and to also keep them from the ongoing gun violence that plague our community on a daily basis.
